Carrie Jacobs-Bond was born in Janesville, Wisconsin on August 11, 1862. Her parents were William Jacobs and Harriet Jacobs. She had two brothers and one sister. Jacobs-Bond was educated in the Janesville public schools.
Her first job was as a clerk in a Janesville department store. She later worked as a bookkeeper and stenographer. In 1885, she married Frank Bond, a doctor. The couple had two children.
Jacobs-Bond began writing songs as a hobby. In 1902, she published her first song, “Just Awearyin’ for You”. The song was a success, and she went on to publish over 200 songs. Many of her songs were popular during World War I, including “I Love You Truly” and “A Perfect Day”.
Jacobs-Bond’s songs were recorded by some of the biggest names in music, including Enrico Caruso, Bing Crosby, and Barbra Streisand. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
Jacobs-Bond died on December 28, 1946, at her home in Hollywood, California.
