Bryan Adams OC, OBC, (born 5 November 1959) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, record producer, guitarist, photographer, philanthropist and activist. His hit singles include “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started”, “Summer of ’69”, “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You”, “Heaven”, “All for Love” and “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?”. Adams has been nominated five times for the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. He has won MTV, ASCAP, American Music awards, Juno Awards, and has been nominated for three Golden Globe Awards and two Academy Awards. In 1991, he released “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” from the album Waking Up the Neighbours, which went on to sell more than 15 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Adams was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, to British parents. His father, Captain Conrad J. Adams (1927–2011), was a Royal Canadian Navy officer of English descent who served as a navigator during the Second World War. His mother, Elizabeth Jane (née Watson; died 1991), was Scottish and from a working-class background. Adams has English and Scottish ancestry. Adams was given his middle name after his mother’s maiden name. He has a younger brother Bruce.

Adams attended Colonel By Secondary School in Ottawa and St. Mark’s High School in Peterborough, Ontario. He started working at various clubs in Ottawa as a teenager and began writing songs at the age of 16. When he was 17, he went to England with his band Sweeney Todd and they released their first album If Wishes Were Horses in 1977. The album was not a success and they returned to Canada.

Adams’ first album was Cuts Like a Knife in 1983 and his next album Reckless in 1984 made him a global star and gave him his first Grammy nomination for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for the song “Heaven”. Reckless was followed by Into the Fire in 1987 which produced the hit singles “Heat of the Night” and “Heaven”. In 1991, Adams released “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” from the album Waking Up the Neighbours which went on to sell more than 15 million copies worldwide and still holds the record for the longest running #1 song in British chart history. The song won Adams a Grammy Award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television and an Academy Award for Best Song.

Adams has released 14 studio albums, 8 live albums, 6 compilations, 3 video albums and 63 singles. He has sold over 100 million records worldwide. Adams was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in March 2011 and Canada’s Walk of Fame in 1998. In April 2006, he was awarded the Officer of the Order of Canada for “his contribution to popular music and his philanthropic work”. In 2008, he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at Canada’s Juno Awards. In 2011, he received the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award for his “longstanding philanthropic work”.

Adams has been in a relationship with Alicia Grimaldi since 2008; they have two daughters. He was previously married to Linda Evans from 1987 to 1993; they have one son together. He also has a daughter from a previous relationship with Cecilie Thomsen.

Adams is an avid photographer and has exhibited his work in galleries around the world. In 2011, he released his first book of photographs Exposed which included portraits of celebrities such as Kate Moss, Mick Jagger, Jennifer Aniston and Dalai Lama. His net worth is estimated to be $65 million.
