Bob Giraldi is an American director, producer, and commercial advertising director. He is best known for directing the music video for Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” and for directing the 1984 film, The Breakfast Club.
Bob Giraldi was born on October 28, 1942 in Paterson, New Jersey. His parents were Italian immigrants. He has two brothers and one sister. He attended Catholic schools growing up. He graduated from Seton Hall University in 1964 with a degree in English and Communications.
He began his career as a copywriter and then became a commercial director. He has directed commercials for Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Ford, and Pepsi, among others. He has won several awards for his work, including the Clio Award and the Cannes Lion Award.
In 1982, he directed the music video for Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” The video was a huge success and won several awards, including the MTV Video Music Award for Best Overall Performance in a Video.
In 1984, he directed the film The Breakfast Club. The film was a critical and commercial success. It grossed over $50 million at the box office and was nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
In recent years, Giraldi has directed several documentaries, including A Song for You: The Austin City Limits Story (2015) and Mr. Soul! (2018).
