Barry Hill is an Australian former professional footballer who played as a centre-half. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever players to come out of the country, and was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
Born in Melbourne in 1953, Hill began his career with local club Essendon before making the move to Collingwood in 1972. He quickly established himself as one of the best defenders in the league, and was a key member of the Magpies’ premiership-winning teams of 1977 and 1979.
Hill retired from football in 1985, but not before cementing his legacy as one of the game’s all-time greats. He was named in Collingwood’s Team of the Century, and was inducted into both the Australian Football Hall of Fame and the Collingwood Hall of Fame.
Today, Hill works as a commentator and analyst for Fox Footy. He is also a regular contributor to The Age newspaper, and has written two books on his life and career in football.

Hill played a total of 248 games for Collingwood before retiring from football in 1985. He was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996, and was named in Collingwood’s Team of the Century.
