Antonio Carbajal was born on September 5, 1929, in Mexico City, Mexico. His parents were of humble means, and his early education was limited. Despite these disadvantages, Carbajal developed into a world-class soccer player. He began his career with the Mexican club Puebla in 1949. He quickly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the country.

In 1950, Carbajal became the first Mexican player to compete in the World Cup. He played in every game for Mexico during the tournament. Mexico did not advance past the group stage, but Carbajal’s performances earned him acclaim from fans and pundits alike.

After the World Cup, Carbajal joined the Mexican club Leon. He spent four years with Leon, winning two league titles. In 1954, he once again represented Mexico at the World Cup. This time, Mexico made it to the quarter-finals before losing to Hungary. Carbajal was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

In 1955, Carbajal moved to Europe to join the Spanish club Real Madrid. He spent 11 seasons with Real Madrid, winning five league titles and three European Cups. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time.

After retiring from playing in 1966, Carbajal became a coach. He coached various Mexican clubs, including Puebla and Leon. He also served as the head coach of the Mexican national team from 1980 to 1982.

Carbajal died on September 1, 2016, at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife and four children.
