Anne, Princess Royal, is the second child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Anne was born on 15 August 1950 at Clarence House in London. She was the first royal child to be born in a hospital. Her parents were expecting a boy and had chosen the name Anne for a girl. When she was born, she was third in line to the throne, behind her uncle Prince Charles and her father.

Anne was educated at Benenden School and then went on to study for a year at the University of London. She then spent a year at the British School of Equitation in Gloucestershire. Anne has always been interested in horses and is an accomplished equestrian. She has competed in several international events, including the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.
Anne married Captain Mark Phillips in 1973. The couple have two children, Peter and Zara. Anne and Mark divorced in 1992. Anne married Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence in 1992 and they have one child, Timothy.
Anne is the patron of over 200 organisations and charities. She is also known for her work with disabled people. In 1970, she founded The Anne Windsor Award Scheme which helps young disabled people to achieve their potential through sport.
