Thurl Ravenscroft was an American voice actor and singer, best known as the voice of Tony the Tiger in the Frosted Flakes commercials. He also did voice work for many other commercials, cartoons and movies.

Ravenscroft was born in Norfolk, Nebraska, on February 6, 1914. His parents were both of English descent. He had two brothers and one sister. His early education was at a local grade school and then high school.

Ravenscroft’s first job out of high school was working in a meatpacking plant. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. After the war, he moved to Los Angeles and began his career as a voice actor.

Ravenscroft’s most famous role was as the voice of Tony the Tiger in the Frosted Flakes commercials. He also did voice work for many other commercials, cartoons and movies. Some of his other roles included the voice of the Pillsbury Doughboy, Count Chocula and Woody Woodpecker.

Ravenscroft was married twice and had four children. His first marriage was to Virginia Geise in 1940. They had two children together before divorcing in 1960. His second marriage was to Gloria Clokey in 1961. They had two children together before divorcing in 1999.

Ravenscroft died on May 22, 2005, at the age of 91.
