Tammy Faye Bakker Messner (née Faye LaVerne Bakker; born March 7, 1942) is an American evangelist, singer, television personality, entrepreneur, author, and former co-host of The PTL Club. She is known for her extreme eyelashes, heavy makeup, and tears during her public appearances.

Early Life

Tammy Faye Bakker was born in International Falls, Minnesota, to Carl Stanley Bakker and his wife, the former Fern Lucille (née Hodge). She had a sister, Carolyn Sue, who died of brain cancer at the age of three. She was of Dutch and Irish descent. Tammy Faye’s father was a strict Pentecostal minister, and she would often accompany him on his preaching tours. At the age of twelve, she told her parents that she wanted to join the church. After graduating from high school, she became a beautician, and then attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis.

In 1961, Tammy Faye met Jim Bakker while they were both working at a Christian youth camp in Michigan. They were married the following year. The couple moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where they started the PTL (Praise the Lord) Club. The show became popular in the 1970s and 1980s. Tammy Faye became known for her extreme eyelashes, heavy makeup, and tears during her public appearances.

In 1987, Jim Bakker was accused of sexual assault by a former church secretary. He resigned from the PTL Club, and Tammy Faye divorced him the following year. She later remarried to Roe Messner.

In the 1990s, Tammy Faye appeared on several reality television shows, including The Surreal Life and Celebrity Fit Club. She has also written several books, including an autobiography entitled I Will Survive… And You Will Too!

In recent years, Tammy Faye has been battling cancer. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1996 and lung cancer in 2006. She has been declared cancer-free several times, but the disease has returned.

Physical Characteristics

Tammy Faye is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs approximately 100 pounds. She has blue eyes and blonde hair.
