Susan Blakely is an American actress and model, best known for her roles in the television miniseries Rich Man, Poor Man and its sequel, Rich Man, Poor Man Book II, and The Towering Inferno. She has also appeared in such films as The Concorde… Airport ’79, Over the Top, and Capone.

Born on September 7, 1948 in Frankfurt, Germany, Blakely is the daughter of American parents, Mary Louise (née Guilfoyle) and Colonel Larry Blakely. Her father was a career military officer who served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. Her mother was a homemaker. Blakely has two older sisters, Nancy and Barbara.

Blakely’s family relocated often due to her father’s military career, living in various places including Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. She graduated from high school in 1966 and then attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied art history. After college, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in modeling.

Blakely’s modeling career led to her acting debut in the 1971 film The Sporting Club. She would go on to appear in a number of films throughout the 1970s, including The Concorde… Airport ’79, Over the Top, and Capone. In 1976, she landed the role of Julie Prescott in the television miniseries Rich Man, Poor Man, based on the novel by Irwin Shaw. The role earned her an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.

Rich Man, Poor Man was such a success that it spawned a sequel, Rich Man, Poor Man Book II, in which Blakely reprised her role as Julie Prescott. The sequel was equally successful and earned Blakely another Emmy Award nomination, this time for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.

In 1974, Blakely married film producer Andrew Stevens. The couple had two daughters before divorcing in 2004.

Blakely has continued to appear in film and television over the years, with recent credits including the television series Hawaii Five-0 and NCIS: Los Angeles.

Blakely has a net worth of $5 million.
