Born in Memphis, Tennessee, on September 29, 1970, Carter was one of three children born to parents Jerry and Jacqueline Carter. She has two older brothers, Jerry Jr. and Michael.
Carter began her career in the professional wrestling business as a teenager, working as a ring girl and then as a backstage interviewer for the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA). She also briefly worked as a model and an extra in television commercials.
In 1993, Carter began working for the World Wrestling Federation as a backstage interviewer and occasional on-screen performer. It was during this time that she began using the name “The Kat.”
In 1999, The Kat became involved in a highly publicized feud with fellow WWF performer Terri Runnels. The feud culminated in a “catfight” at the WWF’s Armageddon pay-per-view event.
After the WWF’s “Attitude Era” came to an end, Carter left the company in 2001. She made sporadic appearances on the independent wrestling circuit over the next few years before retiring from professional wrestling in 2006.
Since retiring from wrestling, Carter has made occasional appearances on reality television shows such as VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club and CMT’s Gone Country.
Carter has been married twice. Her first marriage was to fellow professional wrestler Jim Ross, with whom she has one son, Jake. Her second marriage was to businessman Anthony Tucci, with whom she has two daughters, Isabella and Sophia.
Carter currently resides in Austin, Texas, with her family.
