Seamus Dever is an Irish-American actor best known for his role as Detective Kevin Ryan on the ABC crime drama Castle. He has also had recurring roles on the television series JAG, Boston Public and NYPD Blue.
Dever was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Irish immigrants. He was raised in Alexandria, Virginia. He has two older sisters. His father is a retired police officer and his mother is a homemaker.
Dever graduated from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia in 1996. He then attended the University of Virginia, where he studied English and drama. He graduated from UVA in 2000.
After graduation, Dever moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. He has guest-starred on a number of television shows, including The O.C., CSI: Miami, Without a Trace, Cold Case and Grey’s Anatomy.
In 2009, Dever was cast as Detective Kevin Ryan on the ABC crime drama Castle. The show was cancelled in 2016 after eight seasons.
Dever has also had recurring roles on the television series JAG, Boston Public and NYPD Blue.
Dever is married to actress Jane Espenson. They have two sons together.
