Ryan O’Neal was born on April 20, 1941, in Los Angeles, California, to actors Patricia O’Neal and Charles O’Neal. His father died when Ryan was just 11 years old, and his mother passed away when he was 19. Ryan has two older sisters, Tatum and the late actress Griffin O’Neal. He was educated at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he played football and studied acting.
After college, Ryan began his acting career with small roles in television shows and movies. His big break came in 1970 when he was cast as the lead in the film Love Story. The movie was a huge success and made Ryan a household name. He went on to star in many more films throughout his career, including What’s Up, Doc? (1972), Paper Moon (1973), Barry Lyndon (1975), and The Main Event (1979).
