Michael Chiang is a Chinese-American businessman and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of the online education company 2U and the co-founder and CEO of the online lending platform Affirm.
Chiang was born in Taipei, Taiwan and immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of five. He grew up in Los Angeles, California and attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics.
After graduation, Chiang worked in the financial services industry for a few years before co-founding 2U in 2008. 2U is an online education company that partners with top universities to offer online degree programs. The company went public in 2014 and is now worth over $3 billion.
In 2012, Chiang co-founded Affirm, a financial technology company that offers point-of-sale financing for consumers. Affirm has raised over $700 million in funding and is now valued at $2.3 billion.
Chiang is married to Christina Farr Chiang and they have two children together.
