Matt Baker is a British television presenter, best known for his work on The One Show and Countryfile.

Born in Easington, County Durham, on 3 December 1969, Baker was brought up on a council estate in the village of Shotton Colliery. His father was a coal miner and his mother a housewife. He has two older sisters.

Baker was educated at Shotton Colliery Primary School and then at Shotton Comprehensive School. He left school at 16 with no qualifications and took a job as a mechanic.

Baker’s television career began in 1992 when he appeared as a contestant on the game show Blockbusters. He went on to host a number of other game shows, including The Krypton Factor and Wheel of Fortune.

In 2005, Baker began presenting The One Show, a daily magazine programme on BBC One. He has also presented a number of documentaries, including The Secret History of Our Streets and The Secret Life of the Cat.

Baker has been a regular presenter of Countryfile since 2010. He has also presented episodes of Blue Peter and The X Factor.

Baker was awarded an OBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours List for services to broadcasting.

Baker lives in Buckinghamshire with his wife, Nicola Mooney, and their two children.
