Loyd Grossman is an American television personality, actor, and singer. He is best known as the host of the cooking competition show MasterChef from 2010 to 2012.
Grossman was born in New York City, New York on January 13, 1950. His parents were both Jewish immigrants from Poland. He has one sister. Grossman was educated at The Bronx High School of Science and Yale University, where he studied English and drama.
Grossman began his career as an actor, appearing in the Broadway production of Hair in 1968. He also had roles in the films Catch-22 (1970) and The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974). In the 1980s, Grossman became a household name as the host of the PBS cooking show Cooking with Master Chefs. He also hosted the food and wine talk show Good Food on PBS from 1992 to 1997.
In 2010, Grossman returned to television as the host of MasterChef. He remained with the show for two seasons before leaving in 2012.
Grossman has been married three times. His first marriage was to actress Meredith Baxter from 1974 to 1985. His second marriage was to TV producer Doria Cook-Nelson from 1987 to 1995. Grossman has been married to interior designer Alba Clemente since 1997. He has three children.
