The X Factor is an American television music competition to find new singing talent. The second season began airing on Fox on September 12, 2012, and ended on December 20, 2012. Based on the UK format, the competition consists of auditions, in front of producers and then the judges with a live audience; bootcamp; judges’ houses and then the live shows. The winner receives a $5 million recording contract with Syco Music and Epic Records.
The show was hosted by Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian served as co-host during the live shows. Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato served as the original judges. Lovato left the show before the start of the live shows and was replaced by Paulina Rubio.

Tate Stevens was announced as the winner on December 20, 2012, becoming the first male solo artist to win the competition. Carly Rose Sonenclar was the runner-up, while Emblem3 came in third place.

Tate Stevens (born Satchuel Cole on April 28, 1969) is an American country music singer. He won the second season of The X Factor USA in 2012. His self-titled debut album was released on April 30, 2013 via RCA Records Nashville. The album includes his debut single “Holler If You’re With Me” which peaked at number 28 on the Country Airplay chart.
Early Life
Stevens was born Satchuel Cole in Kansas City, Missouri on April 28, 1969, to parents Satchuel and Shirley Cole. He has three sisters: Stephanie, Shelly and Shannon. Stevens was raised in Raytown, Missouri and graduated from Raytown South High School in 1987. He then attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he studied commercial music. However, he left Belmont before graduating to pursue a career in music.
Career
Prior to auditioning for The X Factor, Stevens was a construction worker. He had also previously tried out for season 1 of the show but did not make it past the producers’ round. For his audition in season 2, he sang “Anything Goes” by Randy Houser and received a standing ovation from all four judges. During bootcamp, he was put into a group with Vino Alan and Jeff Gutt but they did not make it to the final 16. However, Stevens was chosen as a wildcard by Britney Spears and advanced to the live shows.
During the live shows, Stevens was mentored by L.A. Reid and was consistently praised by the judges for his performances. He made it to the final 3 along with Carly Rose Sonenclar and Emblem3. On December 20, 2012, he was announced as the winner of The X Factor USA and was awarded a $5 million recording contract with Syco Music and Epic Records.
