Lisa Niemi is an American actress, dancer, and choreographer. She is best known for her role as Swayze’s wife in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing.
Born on May 26, 1956 in Houston, Texas, Niemi is the only child of Edna (née McCurdy) and Al Niemi. Her father was a Finnish-American oil rigger and her mother was a Scottish-American homemaker. Niemi’s parents divorced when she was five years old and she was raised by her mother.
Niemi began taking ballet lessons at the age of eight and went on to study at the Houston Ballet Academy. She later moved to New York City to study at the Joffrey Ballet School.
Niemi made her film debut in the 1981 film Skatetown, U.S.A.. She went on to appear in several other films, including The Outsiders (1983), Grandview, U.S.A. (1984), and Steel Dawn (1987).
In 1987, Niemi starred opposite Patrick Swayze in the film Dirty Dancing. The film was a huge commercial success and made Niemi a household name.
Niemi married Swayze in 1975. The couple had one child together, a son named Jesse Wayne Swayze, who was born in 1982.
Niemi and Swayze divorced in 1995. Since then, Niemi has remarried twice; first to actor Alexander Godunov in 1996 (the couple divorced in 1999) and then to jeweler Albert DePrisco in 2004.
