Kamal Haasan is an Indian actor, director, screenwriter, and producer who works primarily in the Tamil film industry. He has also worked in Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films. Haasan has won several awards including three National Film Awards and nineteen Filmfare Awards. He is one of the most influential actors in Indian cinema.

Born on November 7, 1954, in Paramakudi, Tamil Nadu, India, Kamal Haasan is the youngest of four children. His father, D. Srinivasan, was a lawyer and his mother, Rajalakshmi, was a housewife. Haasan’s brothers are Charuhasan and Chandrahasan, and his sister is Pushpavalli. He had his primary education at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Chennai and his secondary education at Hindu Higher Secondary School, Chennai.
After school, Haasan worked as a journalist for a Tamil magazine called Ananda Vikatan. He then began acting in plays and soon made his film debut in the Tamil film Kalathur Kannamma (1960). Haasan has since appeared in over 200 films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. Some of his most notable films include Moondram Pirai (1982), Nayakan (1987), Indian (1996), Virumaandi (2004), and Viswaroopam (2013).
In addition to acting, Haasan has also worked as a director, screenwriter, and producer. He made his directorial debut with the Tamil film Chachi 420 (1997). Haasan has also written the screenplays for several of his films including Nayakan (1987) and Thevar Magan (1992). He has produced several films including Anbe Sivam (2003) and Virumaandi (2004).
Haasan has won several awards throughout his career including three National Film Awards and nineteen Filmfare Awards. In addition to his acting career, Haasan is also a philanthropist and social activist. He has been involved in several charitable organizations and has also started his own foundation called the Kamal Haasan Foundation which works towards the welfare of underprivileged children.

Kamal Haasan has been married twice. His first marriage was to Vani Ganapathy in 1978 which ended in divorce in 1988. He then married Sarika Thakur in 1988 and they have two daughters together named Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan. Kamal Haasan currently resides in Chennai, Tamil Nadu with his family.
