Jim Gray is an American businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the co-founder and executive chairman of the software company MongoDB. Gray is also a partner at the venture capital firm Accel Partners.
Gray was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 5, 1961. His parents are both doctors. Gray has two sisters. He attended the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy for high school. Gray then went on to study computer science at Yale University, where he graduated with honors in 1983.
After graduation, Gray worked as a software engineer at IBM for a few years. He then left IBM to co-found the software company MongoDB in New York City in 2007. MongoDB is a leading database software company. It went public in 2017 and is now worth billions of dollars.
Gray is also a very active philanthropist. He has donated millions of dollars to various causes, including education and medical research. Gray is married to Maryann Gray. They have three children together.
