Jake LaMotta was born on July 10, 1922, in the Bronx, New York. His parents were immigrants from Italy. He had two brothers and three sisters. His father was a coal miner and his mother was a homemaker. Jake LaMotta was a tough kid who was always getting into fights. He dropped out of school in the eighth grade and began working as a bouncer and a loan shark. In 1941, he started boxing professionally.
Jake LaMotta was nicknamed “The Raging Bull” because of his aggressive fighting style. He had a record of 83 wins, 19 losses, and 4 draws. He was the world middleweight champion from 1949 to 1951. He is best known for his six fights with Sugar Ray Robinson. LaMotta retired from boxing in 1954.
After retirement, Jake LaMotta opened a nightclub and became an actor. He appeared in several films, including “The Hustler” and “Raging Bull,” for which he was nominated for an Academy Award.
Jake LaMotta died on September 19, 2017, at the age of 95. His net worth was estimated to be $30 million.

Robert De Niro later won Oscars for playing both the younger Corleone in The Godfather: Part II (1974) and LaMotta himself in Raging Bull (1980). DeNiro's final scene in that film references Brando's previous Oscar-winning role in On the Waterfront (1954).
