John Buck was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 31, 1969. He is the son of John and Sharon Buck. His father was a successful businessman and his mother was a homemaker. He has two sisters, Jennifer and Melissa. He was raised in a middle-class neighborhood and attended public schools. He was an average student but was very active in sports, especially baseball. He played on his high school’s varsity team and was scouted by several major league teams. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the first round of the 1987 amateur draft.

He began his professional career with the Cubs’ minor league affiliate in Peoria, Illinois. He played well but was not called up to the major leagues. He was traded to the Kansas City Royals in 1989 and made his major league debut that year. He became the Royals’ starting catcher in 1991 and helped them win the World Series that year. He hit .271 with 12 home runs and 60 RBIs in 1992. He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 1995 and helped them win the World Series that year. He became a free agent after the 1996 season and signed with the Chicago White Sox. He played for the White Sox for two seasons and then retired from baseball.

He currently works as a financial advisor. He is married and has two children.
