Eddy Curry (born October 5, 1982) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and attended Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois. Curry played college basketball for one year at Vanderbilt University before declaring himself eligible for the 2001 NBA draft. He was selected fourth overall by the Chicago Bulls.

Curry began his professional career with the Bulls, but he was traded to the New York Knicks in 2005. He spent six seasons with the Knicks, where he averaged a career-high 19.5 points per game in 2006–07. He was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2011, but he was waived before playing a game for them. He then signed with the Miami Heat, but he was again waived before playing a game for them. In 2013, he signed with the Dallas Mavericks, but he was again waived before playing a game for them. In 2014, he signed with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of the CBA.

Curry has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. He has missed significant time due to knee injuries, and he has also had problems with his weight. As a result, he has been unable to live up to the expectations that were placed on him when he was drafted fourth overall in 2001.

Early Life

Eddy Curry was born on October 5, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised on the city’s South Side. His father, Eddy Curry Sr., was a truck driver, and his mother, Mae Curry, was a homemaker. He has two older sisters, Ebony and Erica.

Curry attended Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois. He was a highly touted prospect coming out of high school. He was named a McDonald’s All-American, and he was also named Mr. Basketball of Illinois.

College career

Curry originally committed to play college basketball for DePaul University. However, he later changed his mind and decided to play for Vanderbilt University. He only played one season for Vanderbilt before declaring himself eligible for the 2001 NBA draft. In his only season at Vanderbilt, Curry averaged 17.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

NBA career

Chicago Bulls (2001–2005)

Curry was selected fourth overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2001 NBA draft. He became the youngest player in Bulls history when he made his debut at 19 years old. As a rookie, he averaged 6.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

In his second season with the Bulls, Curry’s role increased as he started 42 games and averaged 11.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. However, his season was cut short due to a knee injury that required surgery.

Curry returned from his knee injury in 2003–04 and started all 82 games for the Bulls. He averaged 16 points and 5 rebounds per game and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

The following season, Curry again started all 82 games for the Bulls and averaged 19 points and 5 rebounds per game.

In 2005, Curry was traded to the New York Knicks along with Antonio Davis in exchange for Tim Thomas, Michael Sweetney, and Jermaine Jackson.

New York Knicks (2005–2011)

In his first season with the Knicks, Curry started all 82 games and averaged 20 points and 7 rebounds per game.

The following season, Curry again started all 82 games for the Knicks and averaged 19 points and 6 rebounds per game.

In 2007–08, Curry averaged 18 points and 5 rebounds per game as he started 77 games for the Knicks.

The 2008–09 season was a difficult one for Curry as he missed significant time due to injuries and personal problems. He appeared in only 26 games and averaged 11 points and 3 rebounds per game.

Curry returned to form in 2009–10 as he started all 82 games for the Knicks and averaged 17 points and 5 rebounds per game.

The 2010–11 season was another difficult one for Curry as he again missed significant time due to injuries and personal problems. He appeared in only 23 games and averaged 10 points and 3 rebounds per game.

Minnesota Timberwolves (2011)

On July 28, 2011, Curry was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves along with Anthony Randolph and Kelenna Azubuike in exchange for Corey Brewer. However, he was waived by the Timberwolves on December 10, 2011 after appearing in only three games due to injuries.

Miami Heat (2011–2012)

On December 16, 2011, Curry signed with the Miami Heat. However, he was again waived before playing a game for them as he continued to be plagued by injuries and personal problems.

Dallas Mavericks (2012–2013)

On September 27, 2012, Curry signed with the Dallas Mavericks. However, he was again waived before playing a game for them as he continued to be plagued by injuries and personal problems.

Zhejiang Golden Bulls (2014)

On August 8, 2014, Curry signed with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). In 28 games for Zhejiang, he averaged 25 points and 8 rebounds per game.
