Derek Thompson is an actor from Northern Ireland, best known for his role as Charlie Fairhead in the BBC medical drama Casualty.
Born in Belfast in 1965, Derek was the youngest of four children. His father was a carpenter and his mother a homemaker. Derek’s early education was at a local primary school, followed by Belfast Boys’ Model School.
It was while Derek was still at school that he began to develop an interest in acting, appearing in a number of school plays. After leaving school, he worked various jobs before landing his first professional acting role in the BBC series Ballykissangel in 1996.
Since then, Derek has gone on to appear in a number of television shows and films, including The Bill, Holby City and Cold Feet. He has also had roles in stage productions, such as The Shawshank Redemption and The Crucible.
In 2005, Derek won the Best Actor award at the Irish Film & Television Awards for his role in the film Inside I’m Dancing.
Derek has been married to wife Jackie since 1991 and the couple have two children together.
