David Taylor (born August 29, 1974) is an American retired professional wrestler and actor. He is best known for his time with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he was a two-time WWE Champion and a one-time World Heavyweight Champion.

Taylor was born in Dayton, Ohio, the son of a high school teacher and a wrestling coach. He was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has two older brothers, Mike and Mark. Taylor was a standout amateur wrestler in high school and college. He won the Ohio state high school championship in 1991 and 1992, and was a two-time NCAA Division I All-American at the University of Michigan.

Taylor began his professional wrestling career in 1996, working for Extreme Championship Wrestling. He joined WWE in 1997, and quickly rose to prominence, winning the WWE Championship from Bret Hart at SummerSlam in 1998. He held the title for six months before losing it to The Rock at WrestleMania XV. Taylor regained the title in 2000, defeating The Rock in a “No Holds Barred” match at Judgment Day. He held the title for four months before losing it to Kurt Angle at No Mercy.

In 2001, Taylor won the Royal Rumble, last eliminating Stone Cold Steve Austin to become the first man to win the WWE Championship and the Royal Rumble in the same year. He went on to headline WrestleMania X-Seven, defeating The Rock to retain the WWE Championship. Taylor’s reign as WWE Champion ended in 2002, when he lost the title to Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

After a brief hiatus from WWE, Taylor returned in 2003, winning the World Heavyweight Championship from Triple H at Bad Blood. He held the title for two months before losing it to Bill Goldberg at Armageddon. Taylor left WWE again in 2004, but returned in 2005, winning the Intercontinental Championship from Shelton Benjamin at WrestleMania 21. He held the title for four months before losing it to Rob Van Dam at SummerSlam.

Taylor retired from professional wrestling in 2006. He made sporadic appearances for WWE until 2011, when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Taylor has appeared in several films and television shows, including Jingle All the Way (1996), Ready to Rumble (2000), Blade: Trinity (2004) and That’s What I Am (2011).
