David Hornsby is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and director. He is best known for his role as Matthew Perry’s brother on the NBC sitcom Friends (1994–2004), as well as his roles on the FX comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2006–present) and the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014).

Born in Newport News, Virginia, Hornsby was raised in Chesapeake, Virginia. His father was a career Navy man and his mother was a homemaker. He has two older sisters. Hornsby graduated from Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake in 1988. He then attended the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he studied English and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. He graduated from William & Mary in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Hornsby began his career as a writer on the NBC sitcom Friends (1994–2004). He also wrote for the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014) and the FX comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2006–present). In addition to his writing credits, Hornsby has also appeared on-screen in a number of television shows and films. He made his acting debut in an episode of the NBC medical drama ER (1994). He has also had guest-starring roles on the CBS sitcoms The Big Bang Theory (2007) and Two and a Half Men (2003), as well as the ABC comedy Modern Family (2009).
Hornsby married his wife, Emily, in 2001. The couple has two children together.
