His first album, Seven Days in November, was released in 2002. His second album, What We Want, What We Get, was released in 2004. His third album, Love Is Everything, was released in 2006. His fourth album, Carry On, was released in 2008. His fifth album, Who Knew Who Cares, was released in 2010. His sixth album, Stories to Tell, was released in 2012. His seventh album, Two Birds, was released in 2014. His eighth album, A Conversation with Dave Barnes, was released in 2016. His ninth album, What We Want What We Get (Deluxe Edition), was released in 2018.
Barnes was born in South Carolina and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in English. He began his career as a songwriter, writing songs for other artists such as Chris Tomlin and Matt Wertz. He has also written songs for films such as The Blind Side and We Are Marshall. In 2010, Barnes won the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year award.
Barnes has toured with many artists such as John Mayer, Taylor Swift, and Gavin DeGraw. He has also appeared on several television shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The View.
