Chloe Smith is a British Conservative Party politician. She has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Norwich North since winning a by-election in 2009, and was re-elected in 2010 and again in 2015.
Born in Norwich, Norfolk, Smith was educated at Norwich High School for Girls and the University of East Anglia, where she studied History. She worked for Deloitte as a management consultant before moving to the Department for Work and Pensions as a special adviser.
Smith was first elected to Parliament in a by-election in 2009, following the resignation of the previous MP, Ian Gibson. She won the seat with a majority of 5,459 votes. In the 2010 general election, she was re-elected with an increased majority of 7,348 votes.
In 2015, Smith was appointed Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General. In this role, she was responsible for overseeing the government’s civil service and ensuring value for money in government spending.
Smith has been described as a “rising star” of the Conservative Party. She is seen as a close ally of Prime Minister Theresa May.
In 2019, Smith was appointed Chair of the Conservative Party’s 1922 Committee. In this role, she is responsible for representing the views of backbench Conservative MPs to the party leadership.
Smith is married to fellow Conservative MP Oliver Dowden. They have one son.
Early Life
Chloe Smith was born in Norwich, Norfolk, on 25 October 1981. Her father, Christopher, is a retired civil servant and her mother, Gillian, is a schoolteacher. She has two older sisters, Emma and Sarah.

Smith was educated at Norwich High School for Girls, an independent school in Norwich. She then studied History at the University of East Anglia, graduating with a first-class degree in 2002.
Career
After university, Smith worked for Deloitte as a management consultant. She then moved to the Department for Work and Pensions as a special adviser.
In 2009, Smith was selected as the Conservative Party candidate for Norwich North following the resignation of the previous MP, Ian Gibson. She won the by-election with a majority of 5,459 votes.
