Carlton Cuse is an American television producer, writer, and showrunner. He is best known for his work on the television series Lost, for which he wrote and produced 121 episodes, and served as co-showrunner and executive producer.

Cuse was born in Mexico City, Mexico, the son of an American diplomat. He was raised in Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard University in 1984. He began his career as a writer on the television series Cheers, and later wrote for the series Nash Bridges and The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.

After Lost ended in 2010, Cuse co-created the television series Bates Motel with Kerry Ehrin. The show aired for five seasons on A&E, and was nominated for several awards, including a Golden Globe for Vera Farmiga’s performance as Norma Bates.

Cuse’s other television credits include the series The Strain, The Returned, and Colony. He has also written two novels, Sanity and Tallulah.

Quotes

#Quote
1[on adding a contemporary viewpoint to the series 'Bates Motel'] There's a certain amount of baggage, obviously, that comes with working in the 'Psycho' environment. Setting it up this way gave us the license as storytellers to tell a really interesting character-driven psychological thriller. Making it contemporary liberated us from the original movie.
