Bill Simpson is an American businessman and former racecar driver. He is the co-founder of Simpson Performance Products, a leading manufacturer of safety equipment for auto racing.

Simpson was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on December 29, 1931. His father was a racecar driver and his mother was a homemaker. Simpson has two older sisters. He was educated at Shortridge High School and the University of Indianapolis.

Simpson began his racing career in 1954, driving a Midget car. He soon began competing in Sprint car races. In 1960, Simpson won the USAC National Sprint Car Championship. He also won the Indianapolis 500 in 1963, driving for A. J. Foyt.

Simpson retired from racing in 1968, after suffering serious injuries in a crash at the Indianapolis 500. He then founded Simpson Performance Products, which quickly became a leading manufacturer of safety equipment for auto racing.

Simpson’s company developed the first full-face helmet for auto racing, which was introduced in 1971. The helmet was mandatory for all drivers in the Indy 500 by 1974. Simpson’s company also developed the first fire-resistant racing suit, which was introduced in 1977.

Simpson has been inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame. He has received the Bob Sweikert Award, the Tony Hulman Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association.

Simpson’s net worth is estimated at $100 million. He has been married three times and has four children.
