Armand Gatti (1922-2011) was a French journalist, writer and film director. He was born in Paris, the son of an Italian father and a French mother. His father was a doctor and his mother a nurse. He was educated at the Sorbonne and the Ecole des Beaux Arts.

He began his career as a journalist, working for various newspapers and magazines. He then moved into film, directing documentaries and short films. He also wrote several books, including a memoir of his time as a journalist in Indochina.

In the 1950s, he became interested in the work of the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, and he began to write about him and his work. He also became friends with Sartre and his wife, Simone de Beauvoir.

In the 1960s, Gatti became involved in the student protests in Paris. He was arrested and spent time in prison. He later wrote about his experiences in prison in his book La Prison de Clichy (The Prison of Clichy).

In the 1970s, Gatti turned to writing fiction. He wrote several novels, including L’Etat de Siège (The State of Siege) and Le Dernier Témoin (The Last Witness). He also wrote plays and screenplays.

In the 1980s, Gatti became interested in environmental issues. He wrote a number of books on the subject, including La Terre est un Jardin (The Earth is a Garden) and L’Homme est un Arbre (Man is a Tree).

Gatti died in 2011 at the age of 89.
