Arlene Carol Dahl (born August 11, 1925) is an American actress and former beauty queen. She appeared in more than 50 films during the 1940s and 1950s, and was a prolific television guest star during the 1960s. Dahl also wrote a series of books on beauty, fashion, and celebrity gossip.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dahl was the daughter of Norwegian immigrants. She began her career as a model, winning the Miss Minnesota pageant in 1943. She made her film debut in 1944’s Hollywood Canteen, and went on to appear in a string of musicals and comedies. Dahl’s breakout role came in 1949’s A Song Is Born, opposite Danny Kaye.
Dahl’s beauty and glamour made her a popular pin-up girl during the 1950s. She appeared on the covers of magazines such as Life, Look, and Photoplay. In 1951, she was named “Miss Photoplay” by Photoplay magazine. Dahl continued to work in film and television throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
Dahl has been married three times. Her first husband was bandleader Xavier Cugat, with whom she had a daughter, Christina. Dahl’s second marriage was to actor Lex Barker, with whom she had two sons, Rolf and Anthony. Her third and final marriage was to producer Richard Hamlett, with whom she had a daughter, Dana.
Dahl has three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada.
