Antony Cotton was born on 5 August 1975 in Sale, Greater Manchester, England. His parents, Paul and Sheila, divorced when he was four. He has two older sisters, Nicola and Tracy. His father remarried when he was eight and he has two stepbrothers and a stepsister. He was educated at St Ambrose College, a Catholic boys’ school in Hale Barns, Cheshire. He then studied drama at the Manchester Metropolitan University.

Cotton’s first television role was in the children’s series The Cinder Path in 1994. He went on to appear in the soap operas Coronation Street and Emmerdale. He also had roles in the films 24 Hour Party People (2002) and Vera Drake (2004).

In 2006, Cotton began appearing in the BBC medical drama Casualty. He played the role of Sebastian “Seb” Jameson until 2009. He then joined the cast of the ITV soap opera Coronation Street, playing the role of Sean Tully. He has appeared in the show for over 10 years.

In 2019, Cotton won the British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the ITV drama series Butterfly.

Cotton is openly gay. He has been in a relationship with partner Paul Conroy since 2006. They have two children together, a son and a daughter.
