Anthony Bennett (born March 14, 1993) is a Canadian professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played one season of college basketball for the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels before being selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2013 NBA draft. Bennett was the first Canadian to be drafted first overall in the NBA.

Bennett was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. His mother, Edith, is a native of Jamaica, while his father, Tony, is of African-American descent. Bennett’s older sister, Ashley, is a former professional basketball player. Bennett began playing organized basketball when he was five years old. He attended Reesor Park Public School and then Thornhill Secondary School, where he played high school basketball for head coach Rob Fulford.

In his freshman year at UNLV, Bennett was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He was also named to the conference’s all-freshman team. Bennett declared for the NBA draft after his freshman year and was selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bennett’s rookie season was marred by injuries and he struggled to find playing time on a Cavaliers team that featured All-Star forward Kevin Love and All-Star guard Kyrie Irving. Bennett appeared in just 52 games, averaging 4.2 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2015 offseason as part of a three-team trade that also involved the Philadelphia 76ers.

Bennett appeared in 57 games for the Timberwolves during the 2015-16 season, averaging 5.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in 2016 as part of a deal that saw the Nets acquire All-Star forward Kevin Garnett from the Timberwolves.

Bennett appeared in 29 games for the Nets during the 2016-17 season, averaging 5.0 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. He was waived by the Nets in 2017 and subsequently signed with the Houston Rockets. He has appeared in four games for the Rockets during the 2017-18 season, averaging 2.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

Bennett has represented Canada internationally on several occasions. He was a member of Canada’s junior national team that won a bronze medal at the 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. He also represented Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.

Bennett’s net worth is estimated to be $5 million dollars. He has earned a salary of $4 million dollars over his NBA career thus far. Bennett has endorsement deals with Nike and Panini America.
