Johnson was born on October 6, 1970, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. She is the daughter of Greig, a car salesman, and Christine Johnson, a homemaker. She has two older siblings, Greg and Leslie. Johnson began acting at the age of nine, appearing in a local production of The Wizard of Oz. She later attended the Montreal Children’s Theatre School.
Johnson’s first professional acting role was in the Canadian television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, in which she played the role of Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger. She appeared in all three seasons of the show. Johnson also had a recurring role in the television series Felicity, playing the role of Julie Emrick.

My fondest memory of Power Rangers was just being a kid and hanging out with the cast and crew. We had such a great time on and off set. We were like a family. Lots of very fun parties and laughs.
