Amber Tamblyn is an American actress, writer, and director. She first came to national attention in her role as Emily Bowen on the soap opera General Hospital, for which she won a Young Artist Award. She is best known for her role as Joan Girardi on the television series Joan of Arcadia, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award. Tamblyn has also appeared in films such as The Ring, The Grudge 2, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and Django Unchained.

Tamblyn was born in Santa Monica, California, the daughter of actors Russ Tamblyn and Bonnie Murray. She has two older siblings, actor Evan Ross and singer-songwriter Tyler Ross. Her father is of Italian descent and her mother is of Irish ancestry. Tamblyn was raised in Ojai, California. She attended High School for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles.
Tamblyn’s first television role was Emily Bowen on the soap opera General Hospital, a role she played from 1995 to 2001. She also had a recurring role on the television series Roseanne as Teddi Jo Pollack, a friend of Darlene Conner (played by Sara Gilbert). In 2002, Tamblyn starred in the short-lived CBS television series Joan of Arcadia as Joan Girardi, a teenager who sees and talks with God. In 2004, she appeared in The Ring and The Grudge 2, both horror films.
In 2005, Tamblyn co-starred in the comedy-drama film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants as Tibby Tomko-Rollins, one of four teenage girls who share a pair of jeans that magically fits each of them perfectly. The film was a commercial success, grossing over $100 million worldwide. In 2006, she starred in the sequel The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 as Tibby Tomko-Rollins.
In 2007, Tamblyn starred in the horror film Halloween II as Annie Brackett, the daughter of Sheriff Leigh Brackett (played by Malcolm McDowell). In 2008, she starred in the Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained as Broomhilda von Shaft, a slave who is rescued by the titular character (played by Jamie Foxx).

Amber suffers from arachnophobia. When a scene in General Hospital (1963) called for her character Emily to pick up her pet tarantula, Amber went to the writers and asked them if they could change the scene. She also suggested that the spider be killed off and Emily be given a rat, the sort of pet Amber herself had at home.
