November 24, 1993, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
Albert Collins was born in Leona, Texas, on October 1, 1932. His parents, who were both musicians, encouraged him to pursue his interest in music. He began playing the guitar at the age of six, and by the time he was a teenager, he was performing with his family’s band. After graduating from high school, Collins decided to pursue a career in music. He moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as a session musician and played in clubs.
In 1960, he released his first album, The Cool Sound of Albert Collins. The album was a success, and Collins became one of the most popular blues musicians of the 1960s. He toured extensively and released a number of successful albums, including Iceman (1971), Cold Snap (1986), and Live at Montreux (1993). Collins was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1983.
He died of a heart attack on November 24, 1993.

When I was coming up, I'd listen to B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Guitar Slim, Lightnin Hopkins, but I never wanted to sound like them. I wanted people to say, That's Albert Collins! I met B.B. King when I was 20 and he told me to find my own thing, said it would help me on my way.
