Barraza was born on March 5, 1956 in Toluca, Mexico. Her parents are Silvia and Adolfo Barraza. She has four siblings: Adolfo, Silvia, Antonio, and Sofia. Barraza attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where she studied acting.
Barraza’s career began in Mexican telenovelas in the 1980s. She made her film debut in the 1995 film Hasta Morir. She has since appeared in over 50 films, including the Academy Award-winning Babel and the Marvel Studios film Thor. Barraza has also directed and produced several short films.
