Xuxa Meneghel (born March 27, 1963), better known as Xuxa, is a Brazilian television host, film actress, singer, and businesswoman. Her various shows have been broadcast in Portuguese, English, and Spanish worldwide. She is a two-time winner of the Latin Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album, and has sold over 20 million albums worldwide. She has been called the “Queen of the Shorties” due to her popularity with children.

Born in Santa Rosa, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, Xuxa is the daughter of Ivone Meneghel (née Steinbach), a housewife, and Luiz Floriano Meneghel, a radio broadcaster. She has two older siblings: Luiz Henrique (born 1961), a doctor, and Maria Ivone (born 1962), an actress. Xuxa’s parents divorced when she was three years old, and she was raised by her mother.

Xuxa began her career as a fashion model when she was 13 years old. At the age of 21, she moved to São Paulo to pursue a career in television. She started out as a weather girl on Bandeirantes Television, and later became a co-host on the variety show Domingão do Faustão. In 1986, she released her first album, Xuxa (1986), which sold over a million copies in Brazil. The album’s success led to her signing a contract with Sony Music.

In 1987, Xuxa released her second album, Xuxa do Brasil. The album’s first single, “Ilariê”, became a hit in Brazil. The album’s second single, “Tô de Bem com a Vida”, was also a hit, and won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album.

In 1988, Xuxa released her third album, Xuxa 3. The album’s first single, “Lua de Cristal”, became a hit in Brazil and Portugal. The album’s second single, “Brincar de Amor”, was also a hit in Brazil.

1Her brother Cirano Rojabaglia, died from a heart attack at 60 years old.(09/13/2015).
2Filmed the entire event while her flight went into forced landing after the plane was struck by lightning, in December 2016. The incident happened in the same week the Brazilian soccer team Chapecoense crashed in Colombia, killed 76 people. Similarly, Angélica (who had a similar career focused on children and replaced her as a host in Clube da Criança (1983)) also survived a plane crash with her fiancee Luciano Huck and their three sons in 2015.
