Petri Hawkins-Byrd is an American actor, television personality, and bailiff. He is best known for his role as bailiff Barney Miller on the ABC sitcom Barney Miller and as the host of the court show Petri Hawkins-Byrd’s Court.

Hawkins-Byrd was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 29, 1957. His parents were both African American. His father was a police officer and his mother was a schoolteacher. Hawkins-Byrd has two sisters. He was educated in the New York City public school system.

Hawkins-Byrd began his acting career in the early 1980s. He had guest roles on several television shows, including The Cosby Show, Miami Vice, and The Equalizer. In 1982, he had a small role in the film An Officer and a Gentleman.

In 1984, Hawkins-Byrd was cast as bailiff Barney Miller on the ABC sitcom Barney Miller. The show ran for eight seasons and Hawkins-Byrd appeared in all 168 episodes.

After Barney Miller ended in 1982, Hawkins-Byrd continued to work as an actor. He had guest roles on several television shows, including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, JAG, and The Practice. In 2000, he had a small role in the film Cast Away.

In 2006, Hawkins-Byrd began hosting the court show Petri Hawkins-Byrd’s Court. The show ran for two seasons and was syndicated in over 100 markets.

Hawkins-Byrd has been married twice. His first marriage was to actress Jaclyn Smith from 1992 to 1995. His second marriage is to attorney Linda Byrd. The couple has two children.

Hawkins-Byrd is 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs approximately 220 pounds.
