Michael Lang is an American music promoter and producer, best known for his work as one of the organizers of the Woodstock Music and Art Festival in 1969.

Lang was born in New York City on January 15, 1949, the son of Jewish parents. His father was a businessman and his mother was a homemaker. He has two older sisters.

Lang was raised in the Bronx and attended public schools. He developed an early interest in music, particularly rock ‘n’ roll, and began attending concerts in the city.

In 1967, Lang traveled to San Francisco to attend the Monterey Pop Festival. The experience had a profound effect on him, and he decided to pursue a career in the music business.

After returning to New York, Lang began working as a booking agent for the Fillmore East, a famous music venue. He also promoted several successful concerts, including a series of shows featuring the Grateful Dead.

In 1968, Lang met John Roberts, an investment banker who shared his passion for music. Together, they founded Woodstock Ventures, a company that would go on to organize the Woodstock Music and Art Festival.

The festival, which took place in August 1969, was a massive success, attracting over 400,000 people. It became an iconic moment in music history and helped launch the careers of many famous musicians, including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

In the years following Woodstock, Lang produced several successful concerts and festivals, including the Watkins Glen Summer Jam in 1973. He also co-founded the New York Rock Festival and the Miami Pop Festival.

In recent years, Lang has focused on real estate development. He is the owner of Michael Lang Properties, a company that specializes in sustainable development.

Lang has been married twice. His first marriage, to Sheila Kitzinger, ended in divorce. He has two children from his second marriage, to Carrie Smith.

Lang is a tall man with brown hair and blue eyes. He is 71 years old.
