Lu Zhiqiang is a Chinese businessman and philanthropist. He is the chairman of China Oceanwide Holdings Group, a conglomerate with interests in real estate, finance, and media. He is also a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, one of China’s top political advisory bodies.
Lu was born in 1953 in the city of Xiamen, in southeastern China’s Fujian province. His father was a factory worker and his mother was a homemaker. He has two brothers and a sister.
Lu attended Xiamen University, where he studied economics. He later earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California.
Lu began his career in the 1970s as a civil servant in the Fujian provincial government. He later worked in the state-owned Xiamen International Trust and Investment Company.
In the 1990s, Lu started his own business, China Oceanwide Holdings Group. The company has since grown into a conglomerate with interests in real estate, finance, and media.
Lu is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, one of China’s top political advisory bodies. He is also a member of the board of directors of the China Everbright Group, one of China’s largest state-owned enterprises.
Lu has a net worth of US$2.4 billion, according to Forbes magazine.
