Kathy Johnson is an American former gymnast who won four Olympic medals, including one gold, and was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004.

Johnson was born in Houston, Texas, on August 16, 1957. Her father was an engineer and her mother was a homemaker. She has two older sisters. Johnson began taking gymnastics classes at the age of six. She competed in her first gymnastics meet at the age of eight.

Johnson quickly began to excel in gymnastics. She won her first national championship in 1976. She also won a silver medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.

Johnson’s career took off after the Olympics. She won the American Cup in 1977 and 1978. She also won the World Championship in 1978. She retired from gymnastics in 1984.

Johnson has been married twice. Her first husband was gymnast Peter Vidmar. They were married from 1985 to 1996 and have two daughters. Her second husband is Michael Weiss, a former figure skater. They were married from 2001 to 2010 and have one son.

Johnson currently works as a gymnastics commentator for NBC Sports. She also has her own line of gymnastics equipment and apparel.
