George Cole is an English actor, born in Tooting, London on April 22, 1925. His parents were both variety artists, and he made his stage debut at the age of three. He was educated at a number of schools, including RADA, and served in the Royal Air Force during World War II.
Cole’s career began in the theatre, but he soon moved into film and television. He is best known for his role as Arthur Daley in the long-running British sitcom Minder. He has also appeared in a number of films, including The Lavender Hill Mob (1951), Scrooge (1970), and The Long Good Friday (1980).
Cole has been married twice, first to actress Penny Morrell, with whom he had two sons. His second marriage was to actress Beverly Morgan, with whom he had a daughter. He has four grandchildren.

Joined RAF in 1943 training as a wireless operator at Cardington until it was discovered that his eyesight wasn't good enough. Transferred to Coastal Command H.Q. in Northwood for a year then posted to Germany where he ran the officers' mess bar.
