Garcelle Beauvais was born on November 26, 1966, in St. Marc, Haiti. Her mother, Marie-Claire, was a homemaker, and her father, Axel, was a lawyer. She has six siblings. When she was seven years old, her family moved to the United States, settling in Boston. She attended a Catholic high school and then went on to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
Garcelle began her modeling career while still in high school. She has appeared on the covers of magazines such as Elle, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan. In 1986, she became the first black woman to grace the cover of Playboy magazine. She has also appeared in campaigns for brands such as L’Oreal and Old Navy.
In addition to modeling, Garcelle has also enjoyed a successful acting career. She has appeared in films such as The Meteor Man (1993), Wild Wild West (1999), and Bad Company (2002). On television, she has had roles on shows such as The Jamie Foxx Show (1996-2001), NYPD Blue (2001-2004), and Franklin & Bash (2011-2014).
In 2008, Garcelle released her memoir, My Life As I See It. In it, she candidly discusses her upbringing, her career, and her personal life.
Garcelle has been married twice. Her first marriage was to Daniel Saunders, with whom she has a son, Oliver. Her second marriage was to Mike Nilon, with whom she has twin sons, Jax and Jaid. She is currently single.
