Cynthia Rowley (born April 29, 1958) is an American fashion designer and businesswoman. She is the founder and creative director of her eponymous fashion label, which is based in New York City.
Rowley was born in Barrington, Illinois, and grew up in a small town outside of Chicago. Her parents were both creative professionals; her father was an architect and her mother was a painter. Rowley has two older sisters. She began sewing clothes for her Barbie dolls at a young age, and went on to study fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
Rowley’s career in fashion began after she graduated from college, when she started working as a freelance designer for various fashion houses. In 1985, she launched her own label with her then-husband, the artist Robert Godley. The label quickly gained a following among young, stylish women in New York City.
Rowley’s designs are known for their feminine silhouettes, bold prints, and use of color. She has also been praised for her ability to mix high-end and low-end pieces, and for her accessible price point. In addition to her clothing line, Rowley also designs home goods, beauty products, and has a collaboration with the furniture company West Elm.
Rowley has been married three times. She has two daughters from her first marriage, and a son from her second marriage. She is currently married to the entrepreneur Bill Powers.
Rowley has a net worth of $50 million.
