Bill D. Moyers is an American journalist and political commentator. He served as White House Press Secretary in the Johnson administration from 1965 to 1967. He also worked as a news producer for CBS and PBS. Moyers has been awarded more than 30 honorary degrees and has received numerous awards for his journalism, including the National Humanities Medal and the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism. He has been married to Judith Davidson Moyers since 1954. They have three children and seven grandchildren.

Moyers was born on June 5, 1934, in Hugo, Oklahoma, the son of Johnnie Mae (née Heaton) and Billie Gene Moyers. His father was a Baptist minister and his mother was a homemaker. He has two brothers, Michael and Steve. Moyers was raised in Marshall, Texas. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1952 and from the University of Texas at Austin in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

Moyers began his career as a reporter for the Marshall News Messenger. He later worked as a news producer for CBS in Dallas and as an assistant news editor for The New York Times. In 1960, he became a political assistant to then-Senator Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1965, Moyers was appointed as White House Press Secretary, a position he held until 1967.

In 1968, Moyers left the Johnson administration to become a news producer for PBS. He created and hosted several public affairs programs, including International Report, Bill Moyers Journal, and Faith & Values. He also produced documentaries, such as The Secret Government: The Constitution in Crisis and The Power of Myth.

Moyers has been married to Judith Davidson Moyers since 1954. They have three children: William Cope Moyers, John Davidson Moyers, and Catherine Elisabeth Moyers. They also have seven grandchildren.

Moyers is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the World Academy of Art and Science. He is also a trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation.

Moyers has been awarded more than 30 honorary degrees, including honorary doctorates from Harvard University, Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University. He has received numerous awards for his journalism, including the National Humanities Medal (2003) and the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism (2008).
