Tony Alva (born September 2, 1951) is an American skateboarder, actor, and businessman. He was a pioneer of the sport of skateboarding and one of the first professional skateboarders. Alva is also the co-founder of the Alva Skateboards company.
Alva was born in Santa Monica, California. His parents were of Mexican descent. He has two brothers and one sister. Alva began skateboarding at the age of eleven. He quickly became one of the most talented skateboarders of his generation.
Alva’s career began when he won the National Skateboarding Championships in 1976. He then turned professional and began competing in international competitions. Alva quickly became one of the most successful professional skateboarders of all time. He won numerous competitions and set several world records.
In the early 1980s, Alva co-founded the Alva Skateboards company. The company quickly became one of the most successful skateboard companies in the world. Alva has also appeared in several films and television shows. He has appeared in such films as “Thrashin” (1986) and “Back to the Beach” (1987).
Alva has been married twice. His first marriage was to Deborah White in 1977. The couple had two children together before divorcing in 1981. His second marriage was to Kelly Slater in 1982. The couple had one child together before divorcing in 1983.
