Tim Farriss is an Australian musician, best known as the lead guitarist of the rock band INXS. He was born in Perth, Western Australia, on 27 August 1957, the youngest of three children. His father, Ross, was a doctor and his mother, Gloria, a nurse. He has two older sisters, Tracey and Gillian. He was educated at Wesley College, Perth and the University of Sydney, where he studied economics.
INXS was formed in 1977, and Farriss was the only member of the band with any formal musical training. He wrote or co-wrote many of the band’s hits, including “Need You Tonight”, “Never Tear Us Apart” and “Devil Inside”. The band achieved international success in the 1980s and 1990s, selling more than 60 million records worldwide.
Farriss has been married twice. His first marriage, to Paula Yates, ended in divorce after four years. He has three children from his second marriage, to model Heidi Klum: Max, 11, Leni, 9, and Johan, 6.
Farriss is a keen surfer and golfer. He lives in Sydney with his family.
I was classically trained on the guitar by a teacher from the time I was 8 to 12 years old. He was an old Italian man who I really loved a lot. He used to accompany me on the mandolin.
