Teri Polo was born on June 1, 1969 in Dover, Delaware, the daughter of Jane (Gentry) and Vincent Polo, a stereo systems designer. She has two sisters, Sherri and Holly. Polo studied ballet for twelve years beginning at age five. She also played soccer in high school. At age thirteen, she appeared in a local production of The Wizard of Oz. A year later, she began attending the Carousel Theater School.
Polo’s acting career began when she was sixteen years old, when she appeared in an episode of the television series The Equalizer. She then made guest appearances on such television shows as Magnum, P.I., Spenser: For Hire, and The Cosby Show. In 1988, she made her film debut in A Matter of Degrees.
In 1996, Polo starred in the made-for-television film A Mother’s Prayer, opposite Bonnie Bedelia. The following year, she appeared in the television movie The Baby Dance, opposite Kelly McGillis. In 1998, she starred in the made-for-television film A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries, opposite Kris Kristofferson.
In 1999, Polo starred in the film The Brady Bunch Movie, a remake of the 1970s television series The Brady Bunch. The film was a commercial and critical success, and Polo’s performance was praised by critics.
