Stephanie March is an American actress, best known for her role as Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cabot on the NBC drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She has also appeared in the films The Invention of Lying, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Break-Up.
March was born on July 23, 1974 in Dallas, Texas, to parents Jill (née Eikenberry), a real estate broker, and John B. March, a computer consultant. She has two older sisters, Michelle and Nicole. March was raised in a Jewish household and attended the private Greenhill School. She later studied acting at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City.
March began her career appearing in various Off-Broadway productions, including The Vagina Monologues and Love, Loss, and What I Wore. She made her television debut in 1999 with a guest appearance on the NBC drama series Homicide: Life on the Street. She went on to guest star on a number of popular television shows, including Sex and the City, Friends and ER.
In 2002, March landed the role of Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cabot on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She appeared in a total of 53 episodes over the course of the show’s run. March left the show in 2005 to pursue other projects.
In 2009, March starred opposite Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn in the comedy film The Break-Up. The following year, she appeared in the romantic comedy Love & Other Drugs opposite Jake Gyllenhaal.
March has been married twice. Her first marriage was to actor Anthony Edwards from 2000 to 2005. The couple has one child together, a daughter named Penelope. In September 2009, March married actor Bobby Cannavale. The couple has one son together, born in 2016.
